I'd
like to propose an idea! In a month that rightly honors the labor
force and the concept of work, let's all sit back and do our
best to avoid working, by spending time by our ponds! That's
right … I propose that September be officially
titled, "Spend time by my pond before the weather gets rough" month.
Now I realize that this may be a long title, but I think
if enough people do it, the concept will catch on. In the spirit
of this
new holiday, I've come up with yet another Top 10 list. This
time, I will be focusing on the best excuses to spend every possible
second by the pond.
10. When it gets a bit chilly, run out and buy that fire pit you
always wanted. After all, you simply must use it as much as possible
around the pond in order to justify the purchase.
9. Light up your pond. Getting lights installed
gives you ample opportunity to stay outside and enjoy your pond.
It's like having
two separate ponds – a day pond and a night
pond.
8. Fall mums around the pond. Your pond can always use some flowers
to brighten it up as the leaves fall. Spend the day putting them
in and the next day admiring your handiwork.
7. You must make sure your fish have everything they need, including
a thermometer so you know when it's time to start feeding them
low temp fish food when the water gets chilly.
6. Read a good book by the pond. Extend your book reading well
into the night with a book light.
5. Who needs a heron decoy when you're out by the pond protecting
your favorite fishies? Get to work!
4. The kids don't need to do homework when they have a living,
breathing ecosystem out in the yard to learn from. (Obviously the
kids' favorite excuse.) Have them do their work by the pond!
3. Who says you can't watch your favorite television shows while
sitting out by the pond? Your neighbors (the ones without the draperies)
have a big screen TV and you've become a really good lip reader.
2. It's impossible to get a wireless laptop
signal in the house. Therefore, you must do all your "work" out
next to the waterfall.
1. You can't throw a party by the pond
and be inside the whole time … that would
just be rude!
These might seem like really silly reasons to stay out by the
pond, but I can't stress enough how beautiful the pond is around
this time of the year. These are the days you'll remember, so why
not spend them by the pond?
